Weekday Events($575 – $720 per hour)

The Kimberly Crest House was built in 1897 and is a well-preserved example of Victorian Chateau architecture. In 1969, as part of an effort to save neighboring Prospect Park, Kimberly Crest was offered to the “people of Redlands” by the owner, Mary Kimberly Shirk. The house and gardens are now open to the public for tours as well as weddings and private events. The gardens are open to the public free of charge and the interior of the house serves as a museum offering guided tours. The estate is also available for weddings, retreats and private events on Saturdays and on weekdays with advanced scheduling.

The nearly 12-acre park offers spectacular views of the city of Redlands and the surrounding San Bernardino and San Gabriel Mountains. Research reveals that the three-story Victorian mansion was designed in the "Chateauesque" style by Oliver Perry Dennis and Lyman Farwell, a Los Angeles-based partnership. A near-replica, now known as the Magic Castle, was designed by the same architects and erected in Hollywood in 1909.

Host Your Event at Kimberly Crest

In 1963 Kimberly Crest was donated to the people of the City of Redlands by Mary Kimberly-Shirk, daughter of J. When John Alfred and Helen Cheney Kimberly and John Alfred Kimberly purchased the estate in 1905, they purchased additional land to total the 6 ¼ acres that remain today. Mrs. Kimberly began adding the Italian Renaissance Gardens with the assistance of their son-in-law prominent architect G. The first 3 ½ acres were purchased for $3,000 by Mrs. Cornelia Hill. She chose the site at the top of the hill for her new home, and had the grounds completed by horticulturalist Franz P. Hosp. The original grounds included a small orange grove to the north and a fountain directly in front of the house.

The Ultimate Guide To Joshua Tree National Park

Kimberly Crest is a beautiful, historic home and garden that has been preserved by the Kimberly-Shirk Association for many years. Mrs. Hill proceeded to build another, less-castle-like house elsewhere in Redlands. Meanwhile, the Kimberly family began installing the fantastic Italian Renaissance gardens that grace the property of Kimberly Crest. Average base cost for a Kimberly Crest House and Gardens wedding is calculated by figuring a 125–person guest list for a Saturday Ceremony & Evening Reception using $100/pp for food and beverage. Entertainment, furniture, additional decorations and rentals, DJ, and photography are not included.

Where Do We Park?

It was designed by the Dennis and Farwell architectural firm and was inspired by a French castle the original owner, Mrs. Cornelia Hill, visited on a trip to Europe. At 7,000 square feet, the structure qualifies as a petite chateau. Prior to the conversion to a museum, the mansion served as one of the filming locations for the 1981 movie Hell Night, starring Linda Blair. In the film, tunnels were depicted, but the house and the estate have no such feature.

Entry inside the house can only be accessed if a group tour or a grand entrance are added on. In 1963 there was a community effort to raise money to match a Federal grant to purchase Prospect Park (a 39-acre botanical park east of and adjacent to Kimberly Crest) for the City of Redlands. To motivate support for this worthwhile project, Mrs. Shirk promised to give her home to the “people of Redlands” if the needed money was raised – and the incentive worked, with the park being acquired in 1968. This French château-style Victorian mansion is a registered California Historical Landmark listed on the National Register of Historic Places. It seems Mrs. Shirk had a strong sense of community and purpose. Before her passing, she challenged the city of Redlands to find the cash to purchase the land around the estate and turn it into botanical gardens for the citizens to enjoy.

In her free time, Emerald enjoys spending time with her family, traveling, and trying new restaurants. This local, family-owned cafe serves up a unique culinary experience through the blending of Mexican and Southern fusion flavors (and legendary waffles). The following year the Kimberly-Shirk Association was formed, which to this day still maintains responsibilities overseeing the upkeep, maintenance and care of Kimberly Crest House & Gardens property. When Mary Shirk passed away in 1981, the Association acquired the home and opened it to the public. The house’s namesake comes from philanthropists and prominent public figures, Helen Cheney Kimberly, her daughter Mary Kimberly Shirk and Mrs. Kimberly’s husband, J. Alfred Kimberly, who is also a legacy to 19th-century industrialism and entrepreneurship in the form of the Kimberly-Clark Corporation.

Whether you’re looking for an event venue or just want to stroll through these gorgeous grounds, Kimberly Crest will certainly not disappoint. Kimberly Crest offers the perfect wedding venue for a unique and memorable wedding. Kimberly Crest offers several different packages for ceremonies and receptions. The grounds of Kimberly Crest span several acres, including Italian gardens, terraces, walkways, fountains, statuary, lily ponds, koi ponds, and more. Visitors can wander through the gardens, exploring everything Kimberly Crest has to offer.

Yes, but note that the grounds are open to the public so there is a chance there will be people in your shots. Yes, for all professional or posed photography, even if a friend or family member is taking the pictures, requires an appointment. Events must end by 10 p.m., with everything taken down and guests off the property by 11 p.m. Your hotel options are going to be somewhat limited in the immediate area surrounding the venue, but there are chains such as Fairfield Inn and Suites close by. The tours also includes a visit to the Carriage House to see the latest of the rotating exhibits anzd end in the Carriage House Gift Shop. Kimberly Crest House & Gardens is a 6-acre estate in Redlands, California featuring a Victorian Chateau and Italian Renaissance styled gardens. In 1905 the home was purchased by Helen Cheney Kimberly and her husband John Alfred Kimberly. Mrs. Kimberly added the gardens and decorated the interior of the home as you find it today. After the Kimberlys’ death, the estate was inherited by their daughter, Mary Kimberly-Shirk.

History

Price is rounded up to the nearest thousand and includes tax and gratuity. In 1963 there was a community effort to raise money to match a federal grant to purchase Prospect Park (a 39 acre botanical garden east of and adjacent to Kimberly Crest) for the City of Redlands. The following year the Kimberly-Shirk Association was formed, a nonprofit organization dedicated to preserving and sharing Kimberly Crest. After Mr. Kimberly passed away, the Kimberly’s daughter Mary Kimberly-Shirk had a rose garden built to ease her mother’s grief and named it “Grandmother’s Rose Garden”.

Upon her death in 1979, by her wishes, Mary Kimberly Shirk donated the home to “the people of Redlands” and established the Kimberly-Shirk Association to run the home and gardens to this day. The property was sold, in 1905, to members of the Kimberly family (John Alfred Kimberly, and his wife, Helen Cheney Kimberly), known for co-founding the Kimberly-Clark paper company. This is a sprawling estate with beautiful gardens, interesting history, and plenty of photo ops. The third floor, which is not included on the public tour, has additional bedrooms and a screened sleeping porch that would have been used in the hot summer months. Kimberly Crest, a picturesque French chateau style home built in 1897, is a well-preserved example of the Victorian Era in California.

Do you have a site fee for wedding ceremonies at your venue?

The second floor was the personal living area for the family and includes a mezzanine with two bedrooms on each side as well as a conservatory.

I have a purpose in mind, such as the Orange Street Alley, and go there to experience it. The current price (at the time of writing) is $15.00 for adults, $12.00 for seniors/active military/veteran/student, and $5.00 for children ages 6-12. The architecture of the mansion has been described in different ways. It is at once a French château-style 3-story home with tall towers and turrets, and also a Victorian mansion as is common to Redlands, California. The Carriage House was built for the family horses and carriages and had a small apartment on the top floor for the caretaker. In 1897 the cost to construct both the home and Carriage House was $10,000.

Alfred Kimberly (a co-founder of the Kimberly-Clark Corporation) and Helen Cheney Kimberly in 1905. Their widowed daughter, Mary Kimberly Shirk, lived in the home from 1920 until her death in 1979.The house’s unique features include a French revival parlor complete with gilt furniture and silk damask wall coverings. Terraced Italian gardens, orange groves and ponds surround this historic landmark home.

'Unprecedented' expansion of landslides in Rancho Palos Verdes Los Angeles Times

The Last House Sober Living for Men in Los Angeles, California is dedicated to providing a true path to long-term recovery for our clients. We embarked on a year-long study to measure the outcomes of our program.

Opinion: A San Francisco carve out could wreck California’s landmark coastal protections

Residents are watching cracks develop in their homes, worried they will end up like the dozen houses that collapsed over the summer in Rolling Hills Estates. Already inundated by record rainfall, Southern California is facing another major storm Presidents Day weekend that could bring new risks for mudslides and flooding in vulnerable areas saturated with water. Some areas in the landslide complex have struggled with slope movement for years — but now the issue has turned into a more widespread, and escalating, crisis. The historic deal redefines the luxury market in Southern California, which has slowed down so far this year in the wake of the red-hot pandemic housing market.

Property details for 7225 Outpost Cove Dr

In September, two new homes were red-tagged in the Seaview neighborhood — a community just southeast of Portuguese Bend — amid growing land movement, prompting city leaders to declare a local emergency. Now, officials are seeking an emergency declaration from the state, which they hope could bolster their fight. Major landslide movement is now occurring across almost 700 acres, or slightly over a square mile, Phipps estimated. That’s a 75% increase over the area that had seen major movement over the last few decades. And the rate of movement in recent months is three or four times that of prior analyses, he said, with further acceleration expected.

One of the most sought after cul-de-sacs in the Outpost enclave. Walled and gated, the home sits on a large flat pad of well over 1/2 acre with a long private driveway and mtr-crt to accommodate several cars in addition to a 3 car garage. The extraordinary lot includes prk-like grounds w lush landscaping, mature trees and city views. This majestic residence offers privacy and a serene lifestyle. The high ceilings and walls of glass create a natural flow out to a huge kidney shaped pool picture perfect for entertaining. There is an updated Gourmet kitchen and a grand master suite with two gigantic walk-in closets.

From the home's location, you'll be within walking distance of (German and Thai) restaurants on Glendale Boulevard, along with other hip bars and coffee shops on Silver Lake Boulevard. The large back yard has a great view of the San Gabriel Mountains, the Hollywood hills, and at night, the shimmering City lights, which create a delightful ambiance that is soothing to the spirit after a long day at work. Recently, a wedding and reception was held in the backyard with over 100 guests. The large lot has enough space to possibly build a swimming pool and beautiful landscaping that can be your retreat in the midst of a fast-paced City. Some locals and an attorney assured me that the removal of the fence will bring a kind of Armageddon — malevolent outsiders running amok and wandering onto people’s private property.

Four years later, the Legislature approved the Coastal Act, which declared a bold set of principles dedicated to environmental protection. The law also extended the life of the voter-approved California Coastal Commission, one of the nation’s most powerful land-use agencies. Complaints and litigation seem to pop up almost every time a Malibu accessway opens, about three dozen times in recent years. To understand the latest conflict, I figured I better go back to the beginning.

How climate change is disrupting California's storms

Locals hired workers to tear down the old barrier in early May and erect a new one. They said the old fence had too many holes and didn’t keep people out. A cumbersome approval process lumps the Cove in with 16 other Malibu accessways that need to be opened or improved. We called it the “Cove,” the beach where I fished and bodysurfed and snorkeled and caroused with my brother, sister, cousins and friends.

The second floor has a wonderful terrace that runs the entire length of the house and offers fabulous views for all upstairs rooms. There is nothing on the market today that can match this value. Reeves worries about home values dipping as the landslide crisis drags on, yet the neighborhood remains prime real estate. And within a few weeks of that announcement Peter Pan Seafood Company also said it would temporarily close its facility in King Cove for winter. That’s noteworthy for a number of reasons – it’s the company’s biggest plant, it processes a number of species year round. But at the time Peter Pan said it would reopen for the summer salmon season.

Our mission is to provide a safe, fun, program-oriented setting where residents can find purpose, progress, and build a foundation for a life that is not only free of drugs and alcohol, but flourishing in all aspects. Have you been looking for a large and newly renovated home in Silver lake? Look at this spacious 4 bedroom 3 bath home with many amenities.

Our community-based approach is here to help our clients in achieving long-term recovery from substance abuse. The real privilege in those days was being able to walk as a family, five abreast, up the shore. Dingo famously dragged driftwood logs, bigger than his own body, for a mile up the beach. Sheepdog Mugs would track home enough of the beach to fill a small sandbox.

The Coastal Act requires regulators to balance public access with private property rights, while also maximizing public safety and protecting fragile ecosystems. After just a phone call or two, I found local residents in a tizzy — a lawsuit had been filed, demanding a return of the fence. One homeowner told me she registered her complaint directly with Gov. Gavin Newsom. Half a dozen years before the California Coastal Act of 1976 made it official, something primal already assured us that access to the beach should be welcomed, not off-limits like some tycoon’s yacht. So, with a wicked old chain-link fence blocking direct access to the shore, we ignored the signs and plunged under PCH.

Historic California lifeguard building destroyed by huge waves Los Angeles Times

Some hurdles to reopening quickly, though, are deferred maintenance at the facility that need to be addressed. Silver Bay has also said it’s prioritizing absorbing as much of Peter Pan’s fleet as possible, including up in Bristol Bay, where Silver Bay will now operate two processing plants because of this Peter Pan deal. So, that will likely eat up some of the company’s more immediate expenses. And then about two weeks ago the company posted on Facebook that the plant would stay closed and encouraged people to apply to Silver Bay for work. And since then Silver Bay has also confirmed that – at least for now – it doesn’t have plans to open the facility. A new owner will take over the processing plant, but it’s unclear when the facility will reopen.

These California beaches have long been off-limits. But public outrage is changing the tide

It was especially unwelcome to us, kids lucky enough to grow up in the sunbaked hills on the other side of the coast highway, in Malibu. You may occasionally receive promotional content from the Los Angeles Times. “You couldn’t watch prime time without seeing a car running along the PCH area and see the house on the beach,” Sap said. State lifeguards are coming to grips with the loss of the historic Cove House training building at Point Mugu State Park, which collapsed onto the beach Wednesday as powerful surf pounded the shoreline. Meanwhile, Peter Pan really wasn’t saying anything about what it planned to do with King Cove.

Lost and found: Should California return Cambodia’s stolen art?

We are committed to the success of college students by providing innovative, low cost, modern, furnished apartment options with the closest proximity to campus. As I left the Cove recently, I met another former local, a sun-drenched 20-something named Henry Ward, who once lived right on Billionaire’s Beach. Behind the exclusive gates of Hollister Ranch are some of California’s most-coveted beaches and surf breaks. Back in my youth, we canyon-dwellers weren’t oblivious to our advantages. But they seemed pale in comparison to the technicolor wealth and celebrity of those who lived right on the beach.

Column: What if Bruce’s Beach was just the start? Why more stolen land is about be returned

Over the decades, the small stretch of dry sand became ever smaller, reduced by rising sea levels and by construction of one more massive beachfront home. Still, the Cove endured, one of the California coast’s innumerable little gems. At the end of the passage, seawater pooled, which meant wading through a mucky pond teeming with driftwood and mystery flotsam. First came the sunlight, the sand and — after a scramble across a rocky point — finally, the beach. No one could claim ownership here, where pelicans swooped and dolphins played.

Structured & trusted sober living home with clinical accommodations. Whether you are a domestic or international student, we have the ultimate package for you. The creek bed is more clogged with brush, tule reeds and driftwood than ever. When I talk to San Fernando Valley refugees, escaping another 100-degree day, it’s hard not to share their giddiness as they plop down in the moist sand, alongside Mother Nature’s timeless air conditioner. The access wars that have flared anew this summer feel as old as the rocky point at one end of the Cove and as new as the next tide. “It’s such a beautiful resource and a place for families to go and enjoy,” said Irma Munoz, chair of the Santa Monica Mountains Conservancy, which holds title to the Cove properties.

The ancient complex includes four historically active landslides, dubbed the Portuguese Bend, Abalone Cove, Klondike Canyon and Beach Club landslides. The oldest and largest, Portuguese Bend, was activated in 1956, starting the land’s slow descent to the sea. After initial shifts ruined about 130 homes, officials have been able to stave off extreme damage with close monitoring, ongoing remediation and a growing inventory of de-watering wells, which pump out water from underground.

Their neighbors lost everything in a massive landslide. Now they fear for their homes

Instead, it was quietly offered at $295 million as a pocket listing, which means it was shown only to a select group of qualified buyers. The mega-mansion spans nearly 40,000 square feet and required 7,645 cubic yards of concrete, according to Morley Construction Co., the project’s contractor. Mountain View Village, formally known as Mountain View Estates, is a beautifully designed, all-age, family and pet-friendly manufactured home community.

Mastro's is committed to delivering an unforgettable experience, every time. Experience exquisite wines, the freshest seafood, the finest prime steak, and genuine service. Kurt Rappaport of Westside Estate Agency handled both ends of the deal, TMZ reported.

Looking for a trusted sober living?

What Munoz and her group want is what any beach visitor wants — to feel they are welcomed, or at least not made to feel like they don’t belong, on land that state law recognizes as open to everyone. Munoz founded the nonprofit Mujeres de la Tierra in part to help bring more people to these once-exclusive places. In July, Mujeres bused about 45 Latino visitors from Pacoima to Escondido Beach in central Malibu.

They said that by erecting an unpermitted fence, the locals effectively blocked court-ordered access to public land. “It rains and our house is moving,” said Caitlin McKay, whose home sits not far from where Reeves pointed out the landslide’s ground zero. Increasingly, however, the rain’s effects are almost immediate, Portuguese Bend residents said. “This just gets worse by the day,” Reeves said on a recent walk through Cinnamon Lane, which she called a new ground zero for landslide movement. The city of King Cove is worried about the future after its seafood processor announced earlier this month that it will cease operations.

We found that men who engage in sober living at The Last House who also attend Thrive Therapy, have proven to have a higher chance at success in recovery. Both of our charming properties are steps from each other which gives our residents the ability to truly make friends in sobriety and to build a sense of camaraderie within our recovery community. The Last House Sober Living® is a network of structured sober living homes located in the heart of West Los Angeles. There is a large sober living community in California, and we are proud to be apart of this.

Waves tore through the boatyard at Pebbly Beach on the east end of Catalina Island, upending boats and scattering lumber across the area. Rolling Hills Estates aims to shore up the slope that failed in July and destroyed eight homes. But as winter approaches, residents fear heavy rain and renewed disaster. The Rolling Hills Estates landslide in July made some homes unlivable. Rancho Palos Verdes is trying to secure state and federal aid after three more slides. The neighborhoods where Reeves and McKay live around the Portuguese Bend Riding Club have moved an average of 4 feet in the last 15 months, Phipps said.

It also marks another feather in the cap for the affluent enclave of Paradise Cove, which has emerged as one of the most valuable stretches of land in the entire country. His style is on full display here, as the L-shaped mansion opens to vast, open spaces marked by concrete hallways and floor-to-ceiling walls of glass. Out back, patios lead to a swimming pool, cabana and a flat, grassy lawn perched on a cliff overlooking the beach below. This gated community includes amenities such as a swimming pool, spa, community clubhouse, and plenty of outdoor gathering areas.

As one who enjoyed what was essentially a private beach for all those years, I understand what the locals are worried about. The transfer of that property to the public felt particularly sweet to coastal access champions because ocean views have been virtually eliminated by mega-homes that stand shoulder-to-shoulder along Billionaire’s Beach. But a victory for outsiders felt to some locals like a heist, stealing their treasured privacy and security. A group of La Costa Beach homeowners, including actor Ryan O’Neal, sued the Coastal Commission. An impressive Spanish estate reminiscent of the romantic European Riviera.

We admired the graceful swimming strokes of Lloyd Bridges, of TV’s “Sea Hunt” and the “Here’s Johnny! ”-madness of Jack Nicholson, bodysurfing right over the rocky point. Another noteworthy point to the Peter Pan side of this – the current owners only bought the company back in 2021. One of the financial backers of that sale was McKinley Capital Management, which was using money from the Permanent Fund Corporation’s in-state investment program at the time. But I think when you look at how quickly this company is halting operations – it’s really indicative of how quickly things have changed for one of the state’s biggest industries.

I called Caltrans and a watch commander at the sheriff’s station. They confirmed that there has been no serious trouble around the Cove since the fence came down, though deputies have told some people to move away when they’ve planted themselves too close to (and even underneath) homes. But I will take the many, many locals at their word when they assured me they are good with anyone visiting La Costa Beach, as long as they follow the rules. They noted that state officials have long agreed that a daytime-only gate, trash cans and other improvements are needed. Color has for too long presented a blockade at lily-white beaches all along the coast.
